BAYOU PRINCESS

Bio

It’s the end of the world as we know it… and Bayou Princess feels fine. Well, fine enough to at least go out dancing while facing the impending apocalypse and everyday horrors of post-capitalism empire collapse. On Dance Tunes for the End of the World, the new 8 song EP from Athens, GA’s own weirdo post-punk art rockers Bayou Princess, the band explores the delirium of dystopia through dance and distortion. The new EP out October 30th, 2026 on Athens imprint Indecent Artistry features 8 tracks, stuffed to the gills with four-on-the-floor disco-punk fusion, sometimes robotic and all the time hypnotic vocals, and the perfect amount of doom to soundtrack your own personal end-of-days dance party.

Formed in 2023 after landing in Athens from various locales around Georgia, Bayou Princess made quick work assimilating in the city’s historic DIY scene. Led by visual artist and band namesake Aidan Lyerly, Bayou Princess was created as an outlet of expression in a rigidly ridiculous world with no “opt-out” feature. Lyerly (vocals, guitar) called on fellow friends Nicholas Dixon (percussion), Jess Ngo (Bass), and Cassidy Hall (vocals, synths) to fill out his sick, twisted, and sometimes silly art rock vision.

“Fault Aside” features B-bender guitar and acoustic guitar courtesy of cosmic country’s own Hunter Pinkston, head of New West’s The Pink Stones. Pinkston and Wayton play together in the Pink Stones and collaborated on Johnson’s track (along with a Bobby Charles cover “Small Town Talk” on the record), lending Howdy, Fellow Traveler! the easy-feeling acoustic licks, wailing b-bender, and grooving bass lines The Stones are known for.

“The writing at the time was about consumerism and the modern consumer and digital culture of this craziness. I feel like the music scene is such a nice escape from the world on the day to day, and a lot of people here are very involved or care a lot about the world. This project was a lot of, just like songs about waking up to the reality we’re in, coping with that and seeing ourselves as victims of it, but then also as participants in it. And navigating that as a band, rethinking what does a band mean? Or what can it mean, back to that silliness. I don’t want to be a business or a brand. Just an expression of daily living.”

Ahead of the full release, Bayou Princess releases single “He Keeps Talking” on October 16th, a grueling last-words odyssey sure to make your head bob and heart sink. Lyerly’s baritone guitar ramshackles back and forth, seemingly bouncing off Dixon’s oblique drums to kick things off. This last waltz settles into a death march as the group slowly parades towards The End throughout the song’s verses. Hall’s vocals echo over walls of distortion in the track’s chorus hypnotically reminding the listener “He keeps talking, you don’t have to listen.” Ngo adds a staunch period-point ending to the track as her overdriven bass takes you to the final dance section as everything falls apart. Bayou Princess will be celebrating the singles release Oct 18th, playing an unofficial “Historic Athens Porch Fest” after party at the PBJ house in Athens neighborhood Normaltown that night.

Dance Tunes for the End of the World was recorded over the beginning of 2026 at The Eye in Athens, GA. The band teamed up with Indecent Artistry head and record producer Adam Wayton to bring these compositions to life. Starting with Lyerly’s home demos, Lyerly and Wayton attacked the recording and production of the new EP from all angles, taking a track-by-track basis to build each song from the ground up. Much of the drums and rhythm section recordings were tracked straight to tape and then processed with of-the-era 70’s disco style compression and saturation. Wayton has been noted describing Bayou Princess as “horny swamp disco” and “some of the coolest shit I’ve ever worked on.”

Dance Tunes for the End of the World releases on Oct 30th, with cassettes available via Indecent Artistry the same day. The group plays the official Wild Rumpus pre-party the next day on Halloween proper at Creature Comforts Brewing.
