Howdy, Fellow Traveler!
Bio

Howdy, Fellow Traveler! release debut “demo-tape” Snow Day Demos available on bandcamp February 26th. This 4 song free-sample from Athens, GA songwriter, farmer, and overall sweetheart Isaac Johnson serves as a preview of the upcoming HFT! full-band release due out this Fall via Athens label Indecent Artistry.
Snow Day Demos was recorded over the recent freezes and almost-winter-apocalypse Athens experienced this January and February. The tracks were intimately tracked on a Tascam 424 four-track cassette recorder by Fellow Traveler / Isaacs roommate Adam Wayton in their basement studio. The tracks feature additional Fellow Travelers Arianna Petersen on cello (“Do You Still Think of Me”) and Josie Callahan on vocals (“Damn, Hell (Well Isn’t This Charming)”).
Johnson’s wholehearted lyrics and unalloyed songwriting beam across the four tracks, with the quartet featuring varying arrangements and plenty of analog-production charm. Here’s a track-by-track breakdown from Fellow Traveler Isaac Johnson:
“Sometimes life hands you a moment and you say, “Man, I gotta write a song about this.” “Gas Station Alligators” is about one of those moments, featuring a terrible conversation, a stranger’s prophetic wisdom, a profession of love, and a gas station with alligators out back.
“Do You Still Think of Me?” came out more or less in one take, deep in the throes of heartbreak. It made me cry while I wrote it, so I figured it might be able to make other people feel something too. This rendition features the wonderful Arianna Peterson on cello.
One morning last spring I woke up to a loud scratching outside my window, sat up, parted the blinds, and saw a bunch of robins digging in the leaves, doing their funny little dance. Then, they started giving me advice, so I figured I’d better write a song about it.
Damn Hell (Well Isn’t This Charming) is a jaunty summer tune about farming, friends, and a funny little beach town on an island in the Puget Sound. Featuring the talents of Adam Wayton and Josie Callahan.”
Johnson self describes this new project as:
“Just a farmer and his best friends singin’ songs about love lost and gained, carrots plucked and un-plucked, and how birds can make you cry. Folk tunes sown by Isaac Johnson and cultivated by some of Athens, GAs sweetest, finest musical muses.”
